End of the Month

Nice, quiet Thanksgiving Day...no one here but the two of us. Reminded us of our first Thanksgiving 39 years ago! Our 21 pound turkey will make lots of leftovers (too bad I'm not crazy about turkey).

We attended a Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert on Saturday...another awesome experience. Well worth it and we'd do it again.

Larry has the outdoor lights up and programmed for the season. Must be close to his birthday! I'm hoping to get the indoor decorations handled this week.

Shadow is coming along nicely. Improving with potty-training - of course it helps that we are here 24 hours a day to remind her. She likes to dig for rocks and then take the rocks to the top of a little hill and let them roll down the hill....and then run down and get the rock and do it again. Clever little puppy! She met Bailey the English Mastiff on Friday...too bad we didn't get any photos. Bailey is such an awesome guy and so gentle. (Same can't be said for Smokey the cat who was stalking Shadow...must have thought she was a gopher!)

New Addition

We have been dog-less for almost 2 years. For the past 6 months it has become obvious that we NEED a dog. Or maybe just I need a dog.

So I've been looking for a dog that will fit in with our lifestyle. In other words small enough to ride on the motorcycle. Our friends have a shih-poo and I came to really like the dog's behavior (and it certainly didn't hurt that she REALLY likes us).

Yesterday there was an classified ad. in the Sacramento Bee for a shih-poo puppy. Fortunately (or not) they had not sold all of them. Today I drove to Sacramento and my friend Jo joined me to go look at the puppy.

It was easy to decide she was the right one. She was calm, even with strangers. She also has one of those "poor me" faces.

In the past 9 hours she has pooped in the car, barfed in the car, eaten lots of puppy food, found the other dog in the mirror, had some beer (which she did not like) and explored the house and the driveway.

A little whiny, but generally pretty quiet! Can't wait for lights out!

Early November

On Saturday afternoon we were privileged to be among those who formed a flag line for a wounded solider returning to Lake County. This was our first "Welcome Home" for one of our soldiers...A welcome change from funerals.

On Sunday morning we supported the pancake breakfast for the Military Honors Funeral Team (GREAT pancakes!)

And in between I created some items from scraps of material. Sewing together all the little scraps of fabric leftover from my various projects was interesting...and I enjoy looking at the finished product because it reminds me of some of the fun things I have made this year.

Another Table Runner

This runner was supposed to be the back of the Christmas table runner...but after I made it I decided it could stand on its own.

The dark color is not blue, but purple.

More sewing....

We had a delightful Halloween at Judy & Fred's home.

I finished the quilt for Larry's dad's Christmas gift.

I sewed another table runner...this time I only had to tear out one seam! I can been trained!

I also made potted plant cozies...one for my friend Judy and one for me!

Next up....pot holders!

How about this as a visitor? I had just returned home and noticed this praying mantis atop the Mustang. I ran into the house, got the camera and shot this photo....this is the second praying mantis I have seen this year. This one was HUGE!

Late October

We have been at home for a few months. Not much riding, but then again once you've gone on a 12k mile ride the yen decreases!

We continue to wonder how we had a life when we worked. We must not have had a life!

Fell victim to the 'cash for clunkers' program and unloaded the ugly brown pickup. Yes!

Larry also found a used Smart car to fit in our enclosed trailer.

It is SO much fun to drive.

Larry was talking about having a parade of our yellow vehicles in the light parade this Christmas season....I think I have him talked out of it. I kind of like SOME degree of privacy!

The Buick I inherited from my dad is now gone. Loved that car. Thanks Dad!

The Ford Larry purchased as a commute car is also gone. I hated that car!

Lots of volunteer work, yard work, organizing and (for me) sewing have been going on for the last few months. There just aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done that I want to get done.

This is an apron made from a pair of Larry's jeans...he got battery acid on one leg but the remainder of the jeans were good...it would have been a lot less trouble to actually BUY fabric, but a good way to recycle and reuse.

This quilt is MINE...I usually make things to give away but I fell in love with the fleece fabric and just had to create something so I could enjoy it. I also love the pattern on the cotton fabric.

This quilt is made from a pattern shared with me by Judy Paris. I'll make more because the pattern makes a finished quilt in less than a day. I really like the pumpkin and spider patterns on the fabric for this quilt.

This table runner is the first pieced item I have made in 35 years. My skill level is less than beginner! I can't recall how many times I sewed pieces together - and then removed the thread and tried again! I'm happy with the result....and proud of myself because I stuck with it until it was RIGHT!

This is the latest project. Martha Stewart included the instructions for this project on her tv show. I created the bag (ha, she purchased one). I made this bag for Larry. He was the one that walked Maggie and Lucie the most during their last years with us. I know he misses them, so I thought I'd create something he could REALLY use with a tribute to his walking buddies.
The one Martha Stewart made had a nice submissive dog sitting, looking up at their master with a relaxed leash. Since neither Maggie nor Lucie were EVER submissive on a leash I made Larry's with a taut leash...kind of like they are for a show dog.

This is the back of the bag...only because when I cut out the silhouettes, one was pointed in the wrong direction and I hated to waste the ultra suede fabric!
